Helping Schools
So here's the deal everyone. I know that many of you are NOT impressed with some of the things that sixapart and LJ have been doing as of late but in my opinion...they have done something AWESOME right now. They are participating in the "blogger challenge" with Donors Choose. For those of you who don't know what Donors Choose is, it's an opportunity for teachers to post a "wish" for lack of a better term for their school. People donate to it through this non-profit agency and then schools get what they "wish" for.

Basically what they are doing is giving away $30 gift certificates that you can then use towards one of these wishes. Now...this is where you come in. If people on my friends list requested their gift certificate and then donate that FREE gift certificate to my school we can get ourselves some computers! That is what we are wishing for. Right now we have NONE...yes, you read that...NONE and these kids need them! We'd like to put together a computer lab so that the kids can use them in the school for both word processing as well as for other great educational tools that are out there.

We will be settin up our Donor's Choose site as soon as our new school address is approved but you need to request your gift certificates NOW! You have until Oct 31 to use them so as soon as our site is live I'll let you know where to post them to. You have until TOMORROW to request your gift certificate. i typed this up and posted it at like 5:00a but it asked me if it was post dated and wouldnt post until i said "yes" (problem fixed, by the way) so it didnt show up here. so im posting it again. woot!

just a head up to the LJ world... amyk.nu is here for now... but will most likely be gone early next year. i just paid for 3 more months, so that takes me to december, at which point i'll probably take it down to the smallest host package available and close it down after the next three months - so we're looking at march of 2007.

theres a mini update from me on the updates page over there kind of explaining more... but its just time. :) how sad is it that its been so long since i updated i forgot all of my log in information?? it took me over three tries to get in. sheesh!

SO. if theres anything you want from there, get it now. LOL its been a great ride - i started a site for the first time in i think april/may 2000 with "patchwork chris" and it took off from there. over 6 years. of which amyk.nu has been around for over 5 of them (july 2001) :) im still amazed!

you ever wake up one day and just KNOW that your life was changing... right there before your eyes? that whatever it was wasnt bold enough to kick you between the eyes, but "there" enough to let you know that whoever you were yesterday was fading?

i feel like over the last year my life has been changing in small ways and big ways and not all of it was within my control, but a lot of it was. and i was ready to make some changes and blindsided by others... and that choices i was making would forever change who i was - for good or for bad. and now it seems like - OKAY. now here we go... the new amy is emerging slowly but surely, but whoever i was yesterday, or last week, or last year... is SO not who i am today - or who i will be tomorrow.

this is getting all deep and stuff, but its strange. i turned 30 and all hell broke loose quitely inside me. :) im growing up and its strange to feel so old and so young at the same time.

so yeah - changes are good. and i cant wait to see what tomorrow brings. its like christmas!

i got this in one of those chain email things from my grandmother (yes, grandma has email now, scary huh??) and i clicked and its legit - and a great thing to do. :)

lets say thanks <-- click there. you choose and fill out a post card and xerox will print it and send it to a soldier. how great is that?? even just a little quick note on the back of some kids drawing could make the difference in a soldiers day or week... and hey - it only takes a minute. :)

wanna know the best thing about today? and tomorrow? and monday? my boss is on vacation!!! and not the kind of vacation where shes "on vacation" but still in town... no no no no! she has this big event (that i honestly cant wait to hear about when she returns) in washington dc this weekend and she wont be in the STATE!!!

yay!!!!!! man, i dont know what it is, but when the boss woman leaves, the tension level drops and we all just have a kick back couple of days. and the silly thing is, is that i like her. shes not some demon boss or anything like that... but still. boss on vacation = paty time at work! LOL

also. i started re-watching my "queer as folk" dvds... i forgot how much i absolutely adore this show. im like 4 episodes into the first season and ive already laughed and cried. this is going to be a good couple of weeks. :) of course, i dont have the last season yet - is it out yet? thats how far behind i am. but im plannin on watching all that ive got. *sigh* love me some gay boys.

AND brian kinney (okay okay, gale harold) is on that new show "vanished". and dont think for a second that i didnt watch it JUST for that reason. *swoon* i SO did.

all righty. off to finish cleaning my room. yep, its that time of the year again.

my computer up and died about 3 *gasp* weeks ago and i have been without. :( so NOW i have a pretty little laptop that ive managed to "break" like three time already (got it on sunday night). im going to try not to do that again. :)

but anyway. im back. ive got too much catching up to do so im just gonna scan the friendslist and see if theres anything awesome i need to be in on. :)

so i had lunch with some high school friends over the weekend - some i see on a regular basis, and some i havent seen since graduation. anyway, we got to talking and laughing and sharing stories and sharing info on other graduates and stuff like that.

WELL. come to find out one of the guys i was friends with in high school and had a HUGE crush on... is in bo bice's band. like, legitimately!! i checked it all out. http://www.bobiceandsugarmoneyfans.com/ its the unofficial fans site (cant find an officialone) and he's there!! kris bell. also if you go to bo's official site thing - he's listed in the song credits.

seriously! he was in a bad called fith in high school (and for a long time after that) - they went from a garage band to bigger than that in no time. man, i still remember my brother talking about them and me hating them because they played hard rock and at the time, i was all about new kids on the block. LOL

but anyway. one of my (many) high school crushes is playing music with one of my (many) current crushes. life is strange, yo.
